Former campaign manager for Donald Trump, Corey Lewandowski said the brouhaha over the tweet of Hillary Clinton was all about political correctness, and not anti-Semitism.
“The bottom line is this is political correctness run amok. If this were to be a star next to Hillary Clinton without the cash behind it, no one would be questioning this,” Lewandowski said.
The controversy was over a tweet sent on Saturday which depicted Clinton over a background of dollars and the words “Most Corrupt Candidate Ever” superimposed inside a Jewish star, a popular symbol of Jews.
Spokesmen for the Clinton campaign wondered if Trump chose a six-pointed star to infer something negative about Jews and perhaps comparing them to the corrupt behavior of Ms. Clinton. The tweet was removed within a few hours, but many continued to wonder if this was some kind of insult to Jews. Trump has been accused of other anti-Semitic acts, and his support of Israel has also been questioned.
Lewandowski, who was removed from his position as campaign manager for hitting a journalist, said the star was meant to evoke the badge of law enforcement, and not anything else.
“This is the same star that sheriff’s departments all over the country use to represent law enforcement,” he said. “You’re reading into something that isn’t there.
“They put a new tweet up with the circle,” he added. “The message is the same. Let’s look at the message. The message is that Hillary Clinton is corrupt.”
