Even First Lady Michelle Obama is willing to give out a treat once in a while. On Saturday, the White House welcomed children to celebrate Halloween with goodie bags of White House M&Ms, dried fruit and White House baked cookies. Joking earlier in the week while appearing on the “Tonight Show” with Jay Leno, Obama said that the White House would have to be careful about getting egged if Michelle didn’t ease up a bit.
White House Warning
As he said,
“I told her the White House is going to get egged if this keeps up.”
And he suggested that they should add “a couple of Reese’s Pieces or something.”
Following directions, First Lady Obama made sure that a few treats were in the bag, including butter cookies made special by White House Pastry Chef Bill Yosses.
Greeting Guests
The Obamas greeted guests in the north portico and were joined by Michelle’s mother, Marian Robinson. All three greeted the eager children and marveled at their costumes. Those invited included children from 17 elementary schools in Washington, Virginia and Maryland. Also participating were children from the Boys and Girls Club of America and those from military families.
Later in the day, the military families were invited for a special Halloween party.
