Not only did the mid-term elections this past November put a damper on President Obama’s ability to march full steam ahead with much of his historic legislation by giving Republicans the majority in the House and a loss of some significant ground in the Senate; but those elections also point to a trend which may be as disturbing as it is telling.According to Edison Research who conducted exit polls, 60% of whites across the country voted for Republican candidates for the House of Representatives, with only about 37% backing the Democratic choice. This statistic goes well beyond the percentage of whites who aligned themselves with Republicans during the 1994 Congressional elections which was a landslide victory for Republicans.Furthermore, these results documenting a definite white flight from the Democratic Party may be understating the trend, according to analysis of other, previously unpublished information from Edison Research.
