The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) national headquarters are returning to Washington, DC, following the relocation to Colorado during the Trump administration.
Interior Secretary Deb Haaland announced the plans in mid-September, saying that the BLM, a section of the Interior Department that controls 245 million acres of federal lands, should have its headquarters in the nation’s capital.
“There’s no doubt that the BLM should have a leadership presence in Washington, D.C. — like all the other land management agencies — to ensure that it has access to the policy-, budget-, and decision-making levers to best carry out its mission. In addition, the BLM’s robust presence in Colorado and across the West will continue to grow,” Haaland said. BLM also has state-level offices across the country.
