First Lady’s Expensive New Knickers Raising Hackles

First Lady Michelle Obama

Sure, we all want to look sexy. And we even want our First Lady to enjoy herself and feel great. But $50,000 great? For Lingerie? First Lady Michelle Obama can’t really have it both ways. While saying that she’s just like everyone else, and trying to always fit in with the American people, Obama then takes off on quite a little shopping spree.

Closing Off Madison Avenue

Recently, part of Madison Avenue was closed off (imagine the expense of that!) so that the First Lady could shop at Agent Provocateur. This high end lingerie shop from the UK has been in the spotlight quite a bit lately. While the chief executive Gary Hogarth won’t reveal who is on his “secret client list” he will mention that they’ve attracted a number of “unexpected famous names” lately – and that includes the First Lady.

First Lady Michelle Obama’s purchases, totaling $50,000 and those of the many other glamorous shoppers have led the sales to a 12.5 pc lift.

Luxury Buying

As Mr. Hogarth said,

“This is a real luxury brand. But now it is also being run with a strong business discipline. That has meant a lot of changes to the finance team, merchandising and production and planning. It also means negotiating on every rental contract – which is more than possible in this market.”

With a bit of humor, Mr. Hogarth continued, “The glamour of the AP brand is really powerful – it has a luxurious quality, that means people have a sense of walking away with a special purchase even when they are buying a pair of knickers.”

Those are some awfully expensive knickers Mrs. Obama has purchased for herself, indeed.
