As if they have nothing better to do with their time, Senator Rand Paul, the son of GOP presidential candidate Ron Paul, is up in arms over his recent treatment by TSA. While flying from Nashville, Tennessee to Washington recently, Rand Paul was stopped due to an “anomaly” found on his knee.
Refusing Pat Down
Paul asked TSA to simply conduct another scan, but TSA insisted on a pat down by airport security. This, apparently, was enough reason to have a fit, and Paul refused the pat-down as an infringement of his rights and “private property.”
Paul then recounted how he was detained in a small cubicle indefinitely and how he missed his flight to Washington for the Senate session.
Wishy-Washy Policy
While simultaneously claiming that he doesn’t want preferential treatment and that everyone should be treated well by TSA, Paul also said that the incident shows how TSA shouldn’t be “spending so much time with people who wouldn’t attack us.”
TSA pointed out that Paul “refused to complete the screening process in order to resolve the issue.”
GOP presidential candidate Ron Paul had to get involved, of course. Issuing a statement, Ron Paul said
“The police state in this country is growing out of control. One of the ultimate embodiments of this is the TSA that gropes and grabs our children, our seniors, and our loved ones and neighbors with disabilities. The TSA does all of this while doing nothing to keep us safe.”
Creating a pitch for himself, he continued,
“That is why my ‘Plan to Restore America,’ in additional to cutting $1 trillion dollars in federal spending in one year, eliminates the TSA. We must restore the freedom and respect for liberty that once made American the greatest nation in human history. I am deeply committed to doing that as President of the United States.”
