Spotlight on Ron Paul

You may not have your radar set on Ron Paul, but perhaps you should. The latest ABC News/Washington Post poll has shown that Paul is now tied with Mitt Romney for second place in Iowa. The 12-term congressman has found time to visit Iowa 50 times since he declared that he will run as a candidate.

Bringing Out the Voters

Paul has always done well with college students, and he recently drew about 700 mostly college students at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls. Paul tends to state his views, no matter how much they may not be favorable.

In September, for instance, during a presidential debate, he was booed when he explained his opinion of the 9/11 attacks. His foreign policy views are definitely one of his weaknesses, and they are the main reason that respondents to a recent ABC News/Washington Post poll said that they would reject him.

Picking Up Steam

However, the Paul campaign has definitely been picking up steam. He’s recently been shown to be in second or third place in the early-primary states and he is looking to Newt Gingrich as the main to move in front of. Running an ad against Gingrich at the moment, Paul accuses him of “serial hypocrisy.”

Time will tell how Ron Paul does for the GOP nomination – but he’s definitely one to keep your eyes on as the battle continues.
