Certainly, with its location in the heart of Los Angeles, and minutes from Hollywood, it should come as no surprise that many famous people have gone to UCLA or work at UCLA. Ranked as one of the leading universities in America, and offering everything from excellent academics to sunshine and beach access, UCLA draws many talented, beautiful and dynamic individuals. Here is a spotlight on a few of the women who have graced its halls.
Danica McKellar
Danica McKellar is probably best known for her role as Winnie Cooper in the television show The Wonder Years. Following her time on the show, she went on to study mathematics at U.C.L.A and to graduate with highest honors in 1998. Today, she is an actress, author and education advocate. Her first book became a New York Times bestseller and is titled, Math Doesn’t Suck. She has gone on to write two other books, Kiss My Math and Hot X: Algebra Exposed. These books encourage middle-school girls to have confidence in their math abilities.
Janna Bullock
Janna Bullock has been a practicing nurse with an MSN in nursing. She is affiliated with Mattel Children’s Hospital at UCLA where she is a clinical nurse specialist and a pediatric nurse practitioner. She was picked, a number of years ago, to use her skills as part of the medical team on the reality show called “Miracle Workers.” On the show, Janna Bullock worked with a team of doctors and nurses to help patients to receive medical miracles and to transform their lives.
Mayim Bialik
Best known for her portrayal of the young Bette Midler in the 1989 movie Beaches, Mayim Bialik was also a star on the popular sitcom Blossom from 1990-1994. In addition to being a movie star, Bialik is a Certified Lactation Educator Counselor and is the co-founder and chair of the youth branch of the Jewish Free Loan Association. She received her B.S. in Neuroscience and Hebrew and Jewish Studies from UCLA in the year 2000 and earned her Ph.D. in Neuroscience in 2007 from UCLA.
