The online donation platform that is frequently used in Democratic campaign fundraising, ActBlue, reported an uptick in donations during the fourth day of the Democratic National Convention of more than $27.2 million. the amount represented the platform’s 4th largest fundraising in any single day. The total for the four days of the convention came to $82.6 million.
Not all the money raised by ActBlue is headed to support of the presidential candidate Joe Biden. ActBlue also sends money to hundreds of other Democratic candidates around the country, to PACs and an expanding number of groups that promote racial justice, in response to the summer’s protest movement.
Biden’s campaign is however the largest Democratic organization on ActBlue.
The convention is not the only thing that has stimulated monetary support from the electorate. Since Kamal Harris’ selection to be Biden’s running mate on August 11, daily donations rose to almost $20 million on average. Compare that to the 30 days before Harris was selected, $8.6 million per day, and you can see that Harris and the convention have inspired people to give generously.
The two days with the largest donations to the Democratic cause were on June 2 and 3, during the peak of the street protests that took place in the wake of the murder of George Floyd. On those two days of protesting against police brutality and injustice ActBlue raised $69.2 million.
The third best day for cash flow into the campaign was the day after Harris was picked as Biden’s running mate with a total of $27.2 million.
