Things are definitely heating up between Newt Gingrich and ex-Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.). Pelosi has threatened to reveal information that would tarnish Gingrich’s image. Serving on the ethics committee that sanctioned Gingrich for violating tax laws and lying to an investigative panel, Pelosi has quite a bit of information up her sleeve.
Gingrich Fights Back
Lashing out at her, however, Gingrich said that revealing such information would “totally abuse the ethics process.” Acting glib, he said at a press conference in Manhattan on Monday,
“I want to thank Speaker Pelosi for what I regard as an early Christmas gift.”
He warned that, should Pelosi actually go ahead and reveal details from the investigation, it would show the “tainted ethics process the House was engaged in.”
Pelosi, keeping it cool and being coy herself said, “One of these days we’ll have a conversation about Newt Gingrich. When the time is right. … I know a lot about him. I served on the investigative committee that investigated him, four of us locked in a room in an undisclosed location for a year. A thousand pages of his stuff.”
Political Motivation
Gingrich has said that Pelosi is proving that the ethics charges were all politically motivated. If she is willing to reveal information of this sort, then should would be doing so just for political purposes, he contends. As he said,
“It tells you how capriciously political that committee was.”
